Junior To-Do List
Review graduation requirements/diploma options with your counselor. Know how many credits you earned last year. Discuss your current GPA. Meet with your counselor to review credits needed to graduate. Discuss course selections and register for classes. Keeping in contact with your counselor is important because you will need a letter of recommendation from them next year when applying for colleges and scholarships.
Maintain A's and B's--The Nevada Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship requires a GPA of 3.25.
Now is the time to explore college options and find the best fit and match for you. Talk to recruiters when they come to campus for visits. Create a list of potential colleges-visit the websites and go on a tour if you can.
Be aware of Advanced Placement (AP) courses, expectations and exams to earn college credit.
- Students will need to pay for these exams. See the bookkeeper, Mrs. Campbell in the main office. (Fee waivers may be available).
Continue to use the school’s Compass Career Center to explore career, college & scholarship opportunities.
Take the ASVAB. Visit the Compass Career Center to schedule an ASVAB test. Tests are usually scheduled each Spring and Fall. To learn more about the ASVAB, click www.military.com/join-armed-forces/asvab/asvab-questions.html.
It is recommended that Juniors take the PSAT in October. There is a fee to take the PSAT as a junior, usually $17.00. See Mrs. Campbell, AACT Bookkeeper, in main office for payment instructions. This is a practice college entrance exam and qualifier for the National Merit Scholarship. Colleges use these scores to recruit students.

Continue to be involved with school and community service activities.
Register online to take an ACT or SAT. All Juniors take the ACT in February. Take advantage of study workshops and practice tests.

Apply for military ROTC scholarships if interested. Apply for military academy admissions.
Take AP exams in May.
Update your resume! Add any clubs, awards, sports, community volunteer work or employment that you participated in. Include any unique experiences: did you take leadership roles in your clubs or student government? Did you participate in ROTC? Did you perform during a half time show? Add anything that sets you apart from the crowd.
