- Elements of a Resume
- Contact Information
- Statement of Purpose - This is always a difficult decision to include a statement of purpose. IF you want to include it, the statement should be directed at a specific position you are trying to obtain. The statement should always be concise.
- Education
- Major Achievements and Work Experience - Employers are not expecting a student to have full-time (if any) work experience. What they are expecting is to understand if the student has knowledge and involvement beyond the classroom. If you’ve worked at a part-time job, or for a neighbor, the reader can tell you are a responsible person and you can learn new skills. There are a lot of ways to show your achievements and experience capabilities. Here are a few you may not have thought of:
- Babysitting
- Mowing lawns
- Pet sitting
- Participating in church functions
- Community service
- Having your own blog/Youtube channel
- Popular social media accounts - Be careful with this one! LinkedIn should be the only social media listed on your resume.
- Skills - Soft Skills (emotional intelligence or natural abilities) vs. Hard Skills (technical or job specific)
- Soft Skills: Examples of soft skills - teamwork, communication, adaptability, creativity and leadership
- Hard Skills: Examples of hard skills - expert in Microsoft Office, advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite, fluent in Spanish
- Organizations, Awards and Interests - These are organizations related to your industry or interests, like FFA, student leadership club, or organized sports.
