Sophomore To-Do List
Meet with your counselor and follow up on your grades from freshman year. Has your type of diploma changed? Review graduation requirements/diploma options. Know how many credits you earned last year. Contact your counselor for questions.
Continue to be involved with school and community service activities.
All sophomores take the PSAT exam in October. A student who scores high and meets other academic performance criteria may qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program. For more information on the PSAT and for practice tests go here: Home – SAT Suite of Assessments | College Board
Learn to use the school’s Compass Career Center to explore career, college & scholarship opportunities.
Visit college and university campuses, take tours and ask others about their college experiences.
Practice and prepare for the ACT. The ACT is required for high school graduation. You want to do the best you can.
Take proficiency exams in the spring. Passing these is a graduation requirement.
Review 4-year plan and course selection with counselor for Junior year. Choose classes for Junior year. Consider taking AP/Honors classes or Dual Credit classes.
At the end of the year, update your resume. Add any clubs, activities, community service, awards or employment to your list.
