Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB): If you're serious about joining the military, then get serious about the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). The ASVAB is a timed multi-aptitude test, which is given at over 14,000 schools and Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS) nationwide and is developed and maintained by the Department of Defense. There are 9 sections on the ASVAB test: General Science, Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Mathematics Knowledge, Electronics Information, Auto and Shop Information, Mechanical Comprehension and Assembling Objects. Your scores in the other areas of the ASVAB will determine how qualified you are for certain military occupational specialties and Enlistment Bonuses. A high score will improve your chances of getting the specialty/job and signing bonus you want. The ASVAB needs to be scheduled in advance, usually several weeks.  For more information about the ASVAB, click here.  To schedule a test contact your local recruiter office for the branch of military you would like to join.

Just like taking the SAT and ACT, you should practice! Below are links to free online practice web sites:

What's the PiCAT? The PiCAT test is an untimed, unproctored, full version of the ASVAB that you take on any computer with an internet connection. It is intended only for applicants who have never taken the ASVAB. This test predicts future military training and job success. As a result, people with high scores on the PiCAT have a better chance of qualifying for entry into the military. Most noteworthy, a higher score opens doors to select, highly desirable, jobs within the military.  Learn more about the PICAT at asvabbootcamp.com/blog/picat-test-questions/.
