SEPT 15: THE GATES SCHOLARSHIP (FULL COST OF ATTENDANCE)
The Gates Scholarship (TGS) is a highly selective, last-dollar scholarship for outstanding, minority, high school seniors from low-income households. Each year, the scholarship is awarded to exceptional student leaders, with the intent of helping them realize their maximum potential. Scholars will receive funding for the full cost of attendance (tuition, fees, room, board, books, and transportation) that is not already covered by other financial aid. To apply, students must be: planning to enroll full-time, in a four-year degree program, at a US accredited, not-for-profit, private or public college or university, a high school senior, from at least one of the following ethnicities: African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian & Pacific Islander American, and/or Hispanic American, Pell-eligible, a US citizen, national, or permanent resident and in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale. The Coca-Cola Scholars Program scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to students in their final year of high school. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. 150 Coca-Cola Scholars are selected each year to receive this $20,000 scholarship. Requirements include: at least a 3.0 GPA in high school coursework and planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution. SEPT 30: DON'T TEXT AND DRIVE SCHOLARSHIP (VARIES)
Do you know how far you will drive on the freeway if you take your eyes off the road for five seconds, the average time it takes to send a text? An entire football field. According to the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, texting while driving makes drivers 23 times more likely to get into a "safety-critical event." Open to high school seniors who are planning to enroll in a qualifying institution for the 25-26 academic year. We're giving one successful survivor $2,000 towards his or her college education. Do you think you have what it takes to make the cut? Submit an online written response to the question: "Imagine that your high school or college has been overrun with zombies. Your math professor, the cafeteria ladies, and even your best friend have all joined the walking dead. OCT 31: Reno High Sierra Chapter of the Ninety-Nines International Organization of Women Pilots (Awards Vary)
The Reno High Sierra Chapter of the Ninety-Nines International Organization of Women Pilots presents several scholarships for female pilots. Over $13,000 in scholarships will be awarded. CRITERIA: Limited to female student pilots and female pilots who reside within a 99 nautical mile radius of the Reno Tahoe International Airport, or the area east of Hwy 395 and north of Hwy 50 to the Utah, Idaho and Oregon borders. Scholarships are applicable to any category of aircraft i.e. airplane, glider, rotorcraft, lighter-than-air & powered lift. Student pilots must have soloed at the time of application for Private Pilot Certificate Scholarship. OCT 31: VOICE OF DEMOCRACY SCHOLARSHIP (UP TO $35,000)
Voice of Democracy audio-essay program provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay. The national first place winner receives a $35,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient’s American university, college or vocational/technical school. Other national scholarships range from $1,000-$21,000, and the first place winner from each VFW Department (state) wins at least a scholarship of $1,000.

Since 1931, the Elks National Foundation has helped students recognize their academic dreams. Each year, we award more than $3 million in college scholarships to at least 850 outstanding, service-minded high school seniors. The James Alan Cox Foundation for Student Photojournalists aims to provide financial support to student photographers of high school and college age. Through a variety of funding, including equipment purchases and scholarships for college and technical school classes, the foundation’s mission is to expand educational and developmental opportunities for student photographers demonstrating interest, talent and financial need. Five (5) Digital SLR Cameras will be awarded to five (5) high school students. Five (5) $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to five (5) college or technical school students, payable to their school. This scholarship aims to support students who are pursuing higher education and making the most of their time through close reading. Close reading is an underappreciated, wonderful skill that offers unique insights into the world. The P.E.O. Sisterhood is an international philanthropic and educational organization that promotes educational opportunities for women through grants, loans and scholarships. P.E.O. Nevada Chapter Q awards three Marguerite Scholarships each year to qualified high school senior women in the Reno/Sparks area. Marguerite Scholarships award $2,500 each year during which the recipient attends an accredited post-secondary educational institution and maintains an acceptable GPA. The maximum award will be $10,000 during the woman’s 4 years of undergraduate study. The ideal candidates will be enrolled in an Associate's Degree track or certificate program at the school of their choice; the degree track or certificate program should result in a good lead to a good job. APRIL 15: FIREHOUSE SUBS PUBLIC SAFETY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP ($5,000)
Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation (Public Charity) has established a scholarship program to assist students who plan to enroll in a part-time or full-time firefighter, law enforcement, or emergency medical (paramedic or EMT) program at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year. APRIL 15: MARY J. YAMAMOTO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ($5,000)
Open to young women who are graduating high school seniors from Washoe County, Nevada, who will be attending accredited colleges, universities, or trade schools to obtain and 2 or 4-year degree or certificate. Applicants must be seeking a certification, associate degree, or bachelor’s degree at an accredited institution; have a minimum GPA of 2.5; have a minimum SAT score of 1000 and/or ACT score of 22; be a U.S. citizen; and agree to maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and submit an unofficial copy of transcripts at the end of each semester they are receiving an award. APRIL 15: TRAUB-DICKER RAINBOW SCHOLARSHIP ($4,000)
This scholarship is open to lesbian women at any college education level, from those about to finish high school through graduate school students. You must answer three essay questions, have a letter of recommendation, and supply your most recent transcripts, though GPAs aren't considered. In addition, you must have a proven track record of improving the lives of LGBTQ+ people, community service, leadership, and academic achievement. APRIL 15: LEAGUE FOUNDATION (one application works for multiple scholarships with multiple awards)
Open to members of the LGBTQ+ community who are about to graduate from high school. You must plan to attend an accredited vocational school or college, have a 3.0 or better GPA, and submit two essays and two letters of recommendation. The more leadership roles played in the LGBTQ+ community, the better. The scholarships include the Laurel Hester Memorial Scholarship, the Matthew Shepard Memorial Scholarship, the Tyler Clementi Memorial Scholarship, and the LEAGUE Foundation Scholarships. Alpha Si Sigma Sorority awards and recognizes an incoming high school student with a $500 scholarship based on academic and non-academic criteria such as leadership, community involvement educational aspirations, career goals, special circumstances, and financial need. APRIL 30: ALEX SEVCSIK OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP ($2,000)
The Alex Sevcsik Opportunity Scholarship is for graduating seniors from the Academy of Arts, Careers, and Technology, ideally whose interest is to pursue Business or Automotive Technologies. Qualifying students will be planning to attend any 2- or 4- year college or university, community college, or trade school in Nevada, or an accredited trade school outside the state of Nevada. Preference is for first-generation college students, and those who demonstrate significant financial need. This is a one-time award of $2,000, with the potential to be renewed for one additional year with reapplication. Along with this application, you'll be required to attach: transcript, video statement or essay discussing how the scholarship will help you in achieving your goals and a letter of recommendation (optional). APRIL 30: THE FOSTER CHILDREN EDUCATIONS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP (AWARDS VARY)
Open to youth who are or have been in foster care (never legally adopted or expected to be legally adopted) in the State of Nevada and who have received a high school diploma and desire to earnestly pursue high education with at least a 3.0 GPA. Additionally, applicants must have no other significant financial means or other significant financial assistance to pursue their education. Preference will be given to full-time students; funds may be used for vocational or other specialized training and covers tuition, books, and fees for awardees.
